I may not have personal experience with blind cats, but have heard many stories of people who have blind cats and lead happy, healthy lives. Please don't listen to people who haven't even met Kelly. Listen to those who have met and cared for her, who tell you she's adapted and has been a fighter to live her life. Please do not kill Kelly simple because she had the misfortune to become blind. Please let sweet Kelly live! I rescued a blind cat from the streets. Her name was Millicent and she was a wonderful happy, kitty. She used a litter box, played, snuggled and loved unconditionally. She got along beautifully with our much larger dog, and often outsmarted him. Just like a blind person can live a fulfilling life, so can a blind cat. Länsstyrelsen people are NOT animal experts. They are NOT qualified to make any decisions regarding animal health, rights or welfare. Please, research this murderous organisation that exists ONLY for profit and does not have any interest in saving the lives of either domestic pets or wild animals. Länsstyrelsen was introduced in 2009 for the sole purpose of making money at the expense of innocent lives. Share this info as much as you can, expecially outside of Sweden. They are in constant violations of EU directives but no one outside of Sweden is informed about it. They MUST be stopped! Little Kelly is just the latest victim of a system that still considers animals as objects and not as sentient beings, as per their obsolete and immoral Animal Welfare Act. Conniving, unscrupulous veterinarians are also part of the problem as well as uneducated people who believe that a disabled or an elderly pet does not have the dignity and the right to a normal existence. Swedish people need to be educated because they are also responsible for the creation of despicable organisations such as Länsstyrelsen which are given absolute power to decide about the right to live of another living being, without having any kowledge or understanding of animal ethics. They kill for money. Please, educate yourselves; learn about European laws and ask your government to apply them in Sweden. I am astounded at the innate ignorance and cruelty that would do something like this, how scared they must all be. As an animal rescue volunteer, I have worked with special needs animals and also own a blind cat, who is normal in every way. Blind cats, with proper care and loving owners, have no trouble bonding, playing, eating, using the litter box, etc., as a sighted animal. Här i USA har vi inte bara många skydd för blinda katter utan också rehabiliterings- och fosterfamiljer som hjälper till att placera dessa katter i kärleksfulla hem. In 2021 - anywhere in the world - is this even something that needs to be petitioned? Not only do I run an animal rescue where we have had many happy, loved, fulfilled blind cats (including a kitten like Kelly whom we rescued at 5 weeks old, both eyes ruptured due to infection, and were removed by an eye specialist. She gets around like any other cat, and just like a blind human, adapted by heightening use of her other senses. She plays, jumps, climbs, cuddles, and loves like any other cat. I am also a doctor of physical therapy. I have had many patients who were blind that are happy, are contributing members of society. Would there be an administrative board debating ending their lives? Then why the dichotomy? An "administrative board" should not be determining life or death of any being. God should have that job and God only. Shame on this country for this even being an issue. Get with the times.
