There is no reason to euthanize this (or any) blind kitty. They adapt very well and it is not cruel. Look up other blind cats like Oskar, Juno and George on Facebook. Even I had a cat that lost an eye and she lived a full and wonderful life to the age of 17.

My Ellie Girl is blind in one eye, because she was shot. Her other eye, she is partially blind and is also partially deaf. She is so much joy. She plays with jingle balls and loves to cuddle. Being blind does not hold her back.

A cat has the right to enjoy life, particularly when a family is keen to have her.

Kelly deserves a chance to live a long life and she already has someone who is willing to sacrifice everything to take care of her. So why are you playing God and wanting to end Kelly's life???

Blind cats make the best pet you could ever ask for. They live a very long, viable life. Allow Kelly to have a lifetime of love from her owner.

I sign because blind cats and other animals can hve happy, long lives. I have a half blind cat as well as a crippled cat who can't walk and they do wonderful! Don't kill Kelly--she can be really happy! And I'll take her if someone can ship her to me in the USA.

please do not kill Kelly or any other healthy blind cat. Cats depend just as much on sense of smell and hearing as they do on sight, have very good spatial memory, and can easily recognize all the creatures in their environment and navigate familiar spaces both horizontally and vertically. They true inhumanity is failing to give this and other similar cats is chance for the life they are readily capable of.

If she is healthy she can have a happy and loving life, please give her a chance to have a loving home. Thank you ❤

I sign because I have a blind cat and he is the most active, curious cat I have ever had. I have 10 cats and he is always the first to explore.

Letting a blind kitten grow up to have a fulfilling life is no more cruel or difficult than letting a blind human do the same. What a slippery slope for human rights when we first erode animal rights! I’ve always thought of Sweden as a leader and champion for the rights of life and living beings. Perhaps no more?

Jan Baumgartner (Illinois, 2021-07-16)

Just because Kelly is blind and ultimately needs her eyes taken out is NOT inhumane! Killing her because she needs the surgery to get rid of something she was born with, but poses health risks for her IS not the way to go. Whoever reported this as inhumane and wants to kill a kitten should be held accountable for causing such a mess. Cats without eyes maintain normal lives. Cats already have heightened senses, and not having eyes poses no danger. They may need to get acclimated at first, but like ALL creatures, as well as humans, we adapt. By adapting, we therefore LIVE. How would it be if a human was euthanized because it was inhumane to have them be alive? First of all, that would never happen. We are animals voice because they cannot speak for themselves. It is unjust and criminal to kill a poor little kitten, let alone ANY animal for the sole reason of needing to have their eyes surgically removed. It’s ridiculous and totally biased to the culprit that created this atrocity. Ending life when there is a LIFE to be lived is INHUMANE. Period.

Cindy Wilson (Saline, 2021-07-16)

In my own life I have have witnessed many blind pets (both cats and dogs) live full and healthy lives with loving families. A blind kitten with a good home already waiting on her should not be euthanized. Shame on anyone who thinks otherwise.

I care about blind cats - they are no different then cats who can see. They just need a home that will keep them indoors. please do not put Little Kelly down - there are many cat lovers that will give her a good life. I know personally people who have owned blind cats and feel they are the most amazing cats - please let her live. Sincerely, Kathy Paulus

I too have a blind cat - he does not know he is disabled in any way. He climbs, he jumps, he's a great fly-hunter, he is living his best life. Would you put down a blind child?

***
The idea that an innocent and obviously happy blind kitten cannot live a normal and wonderful life, and should therefore be killed, is utterly misguided and abhorrent. Please allow Kelly (and all blind kittens / cats) to live. She is obviously very much loved and wanted. The world continues to go through such a difficult, unpleasant time; allowing this beautiful little kitten (Kelly) to live, and to thrive, would be such a joyous (and just) choice! Please do not kill this precious little girl!

Rosemary Sutcliffe (Goulburn, 2021-07-16)

#5858

Lena Olofsson (Sundsvall , 2021-07-16)

#5859

Being blind is not a reason to be killed. You re wrong to kill this cat. Thinking you are doing good is wrong and does not excuse your delusion. Do not murder this kitten.

Ima Looker (FL, 2021-07-16)

#5860

I have a blind cat. He loves life! He plays, he cuddles, he play fights with his deaf brother and he doesn’t know there is anything different about him. There are happy blind cats the world over and it’s madness to euthanise a blind kitten when a happy and loving home is waiting for her.

Kelly Dempster (Southampton , 2021-07-16)

#5862

Please allow Kelly to live with the person that has agreed to adopt her. Blind cats do not suffer and can lead long and happy lives.

Carolyn Brooks (Dallas, 2021-07-16)

#5863

Please don’t harm the kitten. Cats and dogs have the ability to live full healthy active lives while being blind. Please look up Oskar the blind cat on Facebook and read Oskar’s bio. Even tho Oskar passed away a few years ago from a heart condition his legacy lives on. His owners adopted 2 more blind kittens Juno and George both cats are fully blind and are very active. They can climb and jump and have 100% A1 quality of life. Please do not put this kitten to sleep.

Mary Jane Bramble (Florida , 2021-07-16)

I have had three blind cats - all happy

Angela Dormer (Waddesdon, 2021-07-16)

#5876

Please don't kill her-I had a middle-aged cat who went blind and she very quickly adapted to being blind-she would frequently chase one of the other cats in the house from the front door to the back, without missing a beat and without running into any piece of furniture. She loved her life and she was loved! (I can't read/understand the rest of the below questions so I am just going to take a chance and mark all "yes".)

Rebecca Gentry (New Mexico, 2021-07-16)

#5878

She is a happy, healthy kitten. She deserves a chance at a healthy life. Would you kill a healthy human baby because it was blind? This is the same situation.

Annette Nelson (Bronx , 2021-07-16)

#5883

Just because the kitten can't see doesn't mean it can't have a happy life. Let the family adopt her! There's a lot to be said for love.

Phyllis Aicklen (Bloomington, 2021-07-16)

#5885

I sign because I have a perfectly happy and healthy no eyed kitty who is living the NYC dream. She runs and jumps and plans like she has 20 eyes!

Jennifer Gass (New York City, 2021-07-16)

#5887

I rescued a kitten, barely 5 weeks old, blind from and upper respiratory infection that had fused his conjunctiva to his eyeballs as the swelling was so bad. We were able to save his eyeballs, but not his vision. His name is Ace and he is my adorable baby! He is now 8 years old and thriving! Please, I implore you! Kelly kitty will be fine without vision! She, like Ace, will adapt and live long and do well! I forget he's blind he does so well! Be kind and compassionate, for the sake of those who are desperately trying to save this blessed baby.

Crista Jamieson (Richmond, 2021-07-16)

#5889

Please don't kill this innocent little baby - she can live just as good a life as any other cat - you only need to look on the internet to see how amazing blind cats are and what wonderful lives they lead, and the joy they bring to their humans!

Joe black (London, 2021-07-16)

#5890

The kitten will live without sight just perfectly. Cats are able to adapt like every other living being, especially this young. This little cat deserves to live. She has a family and a home!

Situations like this are quite an indictment of a lack of education and empathy. There are countless examples of how well and happy blind cats do live. The government should better take care of animals in real need of help and care instead of interfering in cases where it is completely superfluous.

I have owned blind cats. They have wonderful fulfilling lives that aren't that different from my sighted cats. Please reconsider your stance on this baby, and all other blind cats. They can and do lead wonderful happy lives.

Carol Carter (Nyssa, 2021-07-16)

#5903

Blind cats can live wonderful lives. See, for example, information from Blind Cat Sanctuary or either of Gwen Cooper's books about Homer the Blind Wonder Cat. He even saved scared off an intruder in her apartment one night!

Teri Murphy (Ft. Wright, 2021-07-16)

#5904

Blind cats can lead normal, happy lives! she absolutely should not be killed because the government thinks she isn't normal! Save Kelly!

Barbara Hart (Jacksonville, 2021-07-16)

#5906

This is cruel and highly unusual. Blind cats can and do have wonderful, fulfilling lives. It is very common for stray and feral cats to lose their eyesight due to infection. Cat advocates in the U.S. would never euthanize an otherwise healthy kitten or cat just because they were born blind or went blind later in life. We would just want to ensure that it had a safe, indoor home. Even then, I know blind cats that stroll around their yards without any help by using landmarks (e.g., sidewalk vs. grass, steps, water bowl). The younger an animal is, the easier it is for them to adapt as they are in their prime learning stage and do not have to relearn later in life. I had always thought of Sweden as a more progressive, compassionate, and humane society than the U.S.A., but I'm afraid I was wrong. What's next? Do you execute otherwise healthy children that are born blind or anyone that goes blind because that's the "humane" thing to do. It's as ridiculous as it is awful!

Geneva James (Aydlett, NC, 2021-07-16)

#5913

#5915

I sign because I think this kitten should be saved.

Jenifer Miller (Grove City, 2021-07-16)

#5920

I sign this because there is absolutely guaranteed a good quality of life for any blind kitten. My daughter has a blind kitten that is completely happy and healthy. He, too, had infections in his eyes and made a quick recovery. It is the quality of care any pet receives which determines if that pet will have a good quality of life. Save Kelly and let her be adopted by a loving family.

Sharon Doherty (Winterville, 2021-07-16)

#5921

Please do not kill this cat! Blind cats can adapt easily and live full and happy lives. Surely Sweden wouldn’t take this approach, please let this cat be adopted.

Alison McLellan (Inverness, 2021-07-16)

#5924

Blind cats deserve a chance to live. There are so many precious blind cats who have thrived, such as Oskar the Blind Cat, Homer the Blind Cat, the cats who live at the wonderful Blind Cat Sanctuary in St. Pauls, NC, and Milo's Sanctuary in California. Please see with your heart and give precious Kelly a chance, as well as every blind cat.

Debra Clancy (Gastonia, NC, 2021-07-16)

#5927

You cannot euthanize Kelly. A blind car can very well find her way and enjoy a loving life. Please allow her a chance. I can come and pick her up and care for Kelly.

Sandra Camps (Helden, 2021-07-16)

#5928

Please do no harm to this beautiful creature. Blind cats have just as great of a life as seeing cats! Cats use all their senses. Please check out Oskar the blind cat Facebook page and there are many more! This creature deserves to live. Do not murder this creature, just like you wouldn’t murder a blind human. What ever put this thought to murder this cat in your head? Please allow the cat to be adopted and loved. The cat will thrive!

Maggie Eismann (Espoo, 2021-07-16)

#5929

Please do not euthanize that sweet healthy KellyKitty...how can you possibly be so inhumane and ignorant? Just look around the world at all the disabled but very happy animals that are being cared for and loved and lead a full life with people who are more than willing to let these sweet creatures into their lives. No one, no thing is perfect.

Dear Sir/Madam:
The following is respectfully submitted.
There are many people who would willingly and happily love, care for, and support, both emotionally and financially, animals with disabilities.
To not give Kelly, the kitten, a chance at a happy life is not a humane or caring decision, especially in light of people who are willing to provide medical care and find a 'forever home' for her.
Please do not take a life that someone is willing to save and care for.
In these troubled times, prevail upon yourself to do a kind and caring gesture.
Allow Kelly to have the surgery and be loved.
Thank you.

Blinds kitties can have a very good life. I have been lucky enough to share my heart with two blind cats, both of whom seemed to enjoy their lives very much. They both enjoyed playing with their toys and cuddling in the sun and on our laps. One of the even loved to go for walks (on a harness, of course). Please reconsider the decision to end the sweet kitten's life; it can be a very happy life.

Blind cats are quite capable of having a normal life. To take her life would be like euthanizing an old person because they can no longer function. The author, Gwen Cooper, had a cat and has written books about his adventures and escapades. He was quite capable of living a normal life. Kelly already has a family who is ready to take her as their own. Please do not deny this family the chance to have a loving family pet.

Debbie Stroud (Hephzibah, 2021-07-16)

I had a blind cat who was 100% love covered in soft, warm fur. I named him Hero as there are many of our veterans who were blinded in battle. His hearing & sense of smell were definitely heightened. I am also a Braille transcriber who has worked with children and adults. Children adapt to blindness quicker as this is - in many cases - the only condition they know.
