I am a PhD student near my graduation, and I have so many things to work with, like teaching in the lab or supervising the master student. Now the new immigration rule just brings me extreme pressure and I feel so frustrated with my current situation. I have met a doctor and need to take pills to sleep at the moment. I hope the government or the policymaker could keep their promise and understanding more about the PhD group. I hope our voice can be heard.

I am a final year PhD student, going to defend my thesis soon. As a non-Eu student, one of the things we were promised and we were counting on was PR. Promise of PR was a cherry on top for us. Before we selected position in Sweden, many of us had options at other places in Europe too. Enough said, its like pulling a rug under us. it felt like, a promise got broken and even without a warning. I never realise that we highly educated individuals could be a threat to Swedish immigration system.

I think this awfully unfair and jeopardises all our plans. I've even given an interview to a newspaper on this matter: https://www.studietid.se/internationalreaders/2021/9/6/new-permanent-residency-law-i-dont-wanna-go-back?fbclid=IwAR1KPa399yQze4a_yI2vAxbviO3ViQ_2qasOkjj217dmHae9rUbrMxXPIr4

This is a dangerous and uneccesary change that will force PhD students out of Sweden.

These are talented bright professionals who want to stay in Sweden. Why kick them out?

I came to Sweden with promise of PR in 4 years. If things become harder, I will find a more accommodating country to work after my PhD.

I think the new laws are quite unfair to PhD students who chose Sweden as their destination of PhD studies based on the former laws and are facing these illogical changes.

Its atrocious that the Swedish Government passes a law which affects both young researchers and its own University researchers groups/labs alike.
Its a barbarious bill which has been passed and asks researchers to live with it.
Researchers have been promised, when they made their decision, that they shall find a home and a life a destiny in Sweden. And they won't find themselves kicked out of the country.
Please understand that a hasty decision will always lead to an unfavorable in outcome!

The insecurity that this rule change creates has literally shattered my family. We had a plan and now it's gone all of a sudden. This is unfair

Vasanth Kumar (Gothenburg, 2021-09-03)

I think this is the unfair rule and MV should get some awareness of how PhDs or researchers work in Sweden. We work hard. We teach, do research, and supervise students. We are helping Sweden's new generation.

I have been a PhD student in KTH for four years. I was informed I can have Permanent Residence after I stay for four years when I came. I started planning my life like normal people. I bought an apartment, live with my partner and planning have baby. But suddenly, everything is changed. I cannot stay long in Sweden. It feels like I was cheated to spend my best time of life on a wrong future. I couldn’t accept it!!!
