Nyligen ändrade Skatteverket sitt landsregister så att Taiwan döptes om från sitt officiella namn "Republiken Kina (Taiwan)" till "Taiwan, provins i Kina". Detta beskrivs som en rent administrativ åtgärd för att anpassa svenskt namnbruk till den internationella standarden ISO 3166.

· Det som inte nämns är att denna internationella standard påtvingats Taiwan mot sin vilja, och att Taiwan förgäves protesterat emot den.

· Det som inte nämns är att denna internationella standard baseras på uppgifter från Förenta Nationerna, där Folkrepubliken Kina är medlem, men där Taiwan inte tillåts vara med, på grund av motstånd från Kina.

· Det som inte nämns är att detta kränkande namnbruk ENBART riktas mot Taiwan. Det är ingalunda en del av en konsekvent namnpolicy från ISOs sida. Hong Kong och Macao heter enligt ISO 3166 rätt och slätt "Hong Kong" och "Macao", trots att de är de facto administrativa delar av Kina. Samma gäller Åland, Grönland, Nya Kaledonien, Bahamas, Färöarna, Bermuda och ett stort antal andra territorier som får stå i eget namn trots att de faktiskt inte är självständiga. Det är BARA Taiwan som fått det extra tillägget "province of China".

· Det som inte nämns är att den enda anledningen till den kränkande benämningen av Taiwan som ISO 1366 och FN använder är Kinas strategi att marginalisera Taiwan och förringa dess internationella status så att till slut ingen märker eller bryr sig när det införlivas i Folkrepubliken Kina. Att införliva Taiwan är nämligen en ambition som Kina helt öppet uttrycker.

· Det som inte nämns är att namnändringen upplevs som kränkande av majoriteten av taiwaneser, inklusive taiwanesiska medborgare bosatta i Sverige som kommer att förväntas att ange som sin nationalitet ""Taiwan, provins i Kina" trots att detta är en kränkning av deras identitet och inte heller motsvarar vad som står i deras pass.

· Det som inte nämns är att användningen av namnet "Taiwan, provins i Kina" medför att myndighetspost till svenska medborgare i Taiwan riskerar att komma på avvägar och försvinna.

Svenska myndigheter gör denna "admininstrativa åtgärd" utan tanke på konsekvenser för de berörda parterna, i praktiken för att vara Kina till lags. Det Kina som inte drar sig för att kidnappa en svensk medborgare på thailändsk mark. Det Kina som, när Sverige sent omsider protesterar, beskriver Sverige som "världens åtlöje". Vi behöver inte inbilla oss att vi därigenom bidrar till att höja Sveriges moraliska ställning. Det är kanske inte denna undfallenhet som gör oss mest stolta över vårt land och våra myndigheter.

I mångt och mycket är Taiwans sak vår. Taiwan är ganska likt Sverige, ett litet land, och en välfungerande och progressiv demokrati. Taiwan är ett av Asiens friaste samhällen, men lever under ständigt hot från Kina på andra sidan Taiwansundet. Det enda Taiwan begär är sådant som vi tar för givet: att få vara i fred och bevara sin demokrati, och bygga upp sitt samhälle enligt sina egna villkor.

Det är dags för Sverige och västvärlden att ställa upp för detta lilla folk som envisas med att försvara sin självbestämmanderätt och sin demokrati. Det är dags att Sverige en gång för alla tar ställning för, och inte emot, demokrati, även i Östasien.

Vi bör kanske begrunda frågan: vem kommer att ställa upp för oss när det är vår tur? Vi bör kanske också begrunda frågan hur vi vill bli ihågkomna av eftervärlden: som de som ställde upp för det lilla demokratiska Taiwan när det behövdes, eller de som villigt hjälpte stormakten för att gynna våra marknadsandelar?

Sverige kan i nuläget kanske inte aktivt hjälpa Taiwan. Men det minsta vi kan göra är att för en gångs skull låta bli att aktivt medverka i den internationella mobbningen av Taiwan och taiwanesiska medborgare som pådrivs av Kina och kinesiska intressen.

Vi vädjar därför till svenska myndigheter att i Sverige avskaffa bruket av den kränkande benämningen "Taiwan, provins i Kina".

正名台灣，呼籲瑞典當局去除以「台灣，為中國之一省」為台灣國家名稱，拒絕聯手中國霸凌民主台灣

瑞典國稅局二月二十八日更改「中華民國(台灣)」國名為「台灣，為中國之一省」之情事，瑞典政府單位回應完全是依照國際標準化組織ISO 3166公布表單而改。

瑞典政府忽略的是，這個國際標準是違反台灣意願而且一直被台灣當局抗議中的。

瑞典政府忽略的是，這個國際標準乃是依據聯合國，一個中國是為聯合國安理會會員之一，而台灣被拒絕成為會員之一的聯合國。

瑞典政府忽略的是，中國在國際上明確表態要兼併台灣，其策略包括運用其聯合國安理會否決權和以及強制影響國際標準化組織作業，企圖在國際間無人聞問之下強奪佔有台灣。

瑞典政府忽略的是，更名乃是對所有兩千四百萬台灣人民的霸凌行為，包括居住在瑞典境內持有台灣國籍的台灣瑞典人。此舉妨礙了他們的國家認同，更不用說瑞典政府變更後的國名是與他們所持實體護照名稱不相符的。

瑞典政府忽略的是，更名後瑞典政府單位未來寄發給住在台灣的瑞典國民郵件，恐怕不是寄錯便是寄到遺失，無法順利寄達收件者。

瑞典政府忽略的是，在國際標準化組織文件中找不到科索沃的國名和代碼，但是科索沃卻是瑞典政府承認其存在國際間的一個國家。

瑞典政府忽略的是，在國際標準化組織文件中，香港與澳門也各自名列表單並自有地區代碼，但是這兩地是獨立國家嗎?而且歐蘭、格陵蘭、巴哈馬、新卡勒多尼亞、法羅群島、百慕達斯以及許多非獨立屬地，國際標準化組織都列有其獨自名稱及代碼，唯獨台灣被特別受到關照地標誌為中國之一省！瑞典政府以遵循國際標準化（中立標準嗎？）組織文件的理由更改台灣國名，實為荒誕而另有別因!

攸關一個民主政權國家的大事，瑞典政府毫不關切而輕率更改台灣國名的舉動，還一副展現與中國同一陣線的態度，即使中國在瑞典官員質押之下，瑞典公民桂民海仍然被中國警方在第三地泰國境內強制帶走，即使瑞典政府隨後向中國提出抗議，卻被中國反譏瑞典為可笑的世界一角。就算瑞典不藉此強調倡議人權道德，瑞典更無須以更改他人國號行為，還持續身居全球最適宜人居的國家地引以為傲。

從很多面向而言，台灣的事就是我們的事，因為台灣和瑞典的國際情勢相似，同樣擁有民主運作良好的小國家且不時被鄰近大國覬覦。台灣是亞洲最自由民主的社會，卻無時不被海峽對岸的中國威脅恐嚇。台灣無所求於國際，只求保有其民主自由的社會發展，一個簡單卻輕易被瑞典人視為無物的要求。

該是時候了!

瑞典和西方國家社會應該為這一小群人挺身而出了，一小群堅毅維持其獨立民主自由而奮鬥的台灣人。瑞典必須為支持民主社會的立場表態，包括為地處東亞的台灣。

瑞典人或許也該捫心自問，萬一將來我們面對相同處境時誰來支援我們呢?又瑞典人希望自己在世界各國的印象，是一個當民主小國台灣需求援助時挺身而出的國家，還是一個選擇靠向資本市場經濟大國而彎腰低頭的國家?

國際現勢或許瑞典無法積極協助台灣，但是瑞典絕對可以不當中國魁儡，選擇參與中國對台灣在國際上的霸凌打壓行為。

我們在此力請瑞典政府單位，大聲疾呼去除以「台灣，為中國之一省」的台灣國家名稱，拒絕聯手中國霸凌民主台灣。

Remove the offensive term "Taiwan, Province in China"

The Swedish Tax Office recently changed its country lists, renaming Taiwan from its official name "Republic of China (Taiwan)" to "Taiwan, Province in China". This is described as a purely administrative measure, to harmonize name standards in Sweden to the international standard ISO 3166.

· What is not mentioned, however, is that this international standard has been forced on Taiwan against its will, although Taiwan has sued to try to get this name altered.

· What is not mentioned either is that this international standard is based on naming practice defined by the United Nations, of which the People's Republic of China is a member, while Taiwan is denied membership, due to pressure from China.

· What is not mentioned is that this offensive naming practice is ONLY directed against Taiwan. It is not part of any consistent or logical ISO naming policy. Hong Kong and Macao are listed in ISO 3166 as "Hong Kong" and "Macao" respectively, despite the fact that they are de facto admininstratively within the current jurisdiction of the People's Republic of China. The same holds for the Åland Islands, Greenland, New Caledonia, Bahamas, the Faroe Islands, Bermuda and many other territories which are listed under their own name despite the fact that they are not independent. It is ONLY Taiwan that is forced to carry the addition "province of China".

· What is not mentioned is that the only reason for this offensive naming practice for Taiwan used by ISO 1366 and the United Nations is China's strategy of marginalizing Taiwan and reducing its international status until no-one notices or cares when it is annexed by the People's Republic of China. China makes no secret of its ambitions of annexing Taiwan.

· What is not mentioned is that the change in naming practice is offensive to a majority of Taiwanese, including Taiwanese citizens resident in Sweden, who will be expected to indicate as their nationality "Taiwan, Province in China", despite the fact that this is a violation of their identity and does not correspond to the nationality stated in their passports.

· What is not mentioned is that the use of the name "Taiwan, Province of China" may cause official mail to Swedish citizens living in Taiwan to be misdirected and lost.

The Swedish authorities take this "administrative measure" without any regard for what the consequences may be for affected individuals, directly or indirectly serving the interests of the People's Republic of China. The same People's Republic which did not hesitate to kidnap a Swedish citizen in Thailand. The same People's Republic which responded to belated Swedish protests by referring to Sweden as a "laughing-stock". Let us not make ourselves any illusions that this contributes to Sweden's moral standing. It is not this kind of appeasement which makes us particularly proud of our country or of our authorities.

Taiwan's cause is our cause. Taiwan is similar to Sweden in many ways, a small country, a progressive and well-functioning democracy. Taiwan is one of the freest societies in Asia, but is constantly under threat from the People's Republic of China across the Taiwan Strait. All Taiwan is asking for is what we take for granted: to be left in peace to preserve their democracy and develop their society according to what is best for the people of the island.

It is high time for Sweden and the West to stand up for this brave little nation which is defiantly defending its democracy and its right of self-determination. It is time for Sweden to make a stance for, not against, democracy, even in East Asia.

We should ask ourselves: who will stand up for us when our turn comes? We should ask ourselves: do we want to be remembered by posterity as those who stood up for Taiwan when it was necessary, or those who willingly collaborated with a superpower for the sake of market shares?

Sweden is perhaps in no position to actively help Taiwan at the moment. But the very least we can do is, once and for all, to refrain from actively taking part in the international bullying of Taiwan and Taiwanese nationals which is conducted, with ever increasing intensity, by China and Chinese interests across the globe.

We therefore appeal to the Swedish authorities to abolish the use in Sweden of the offensive term "Taiwan, province of China".

The facts that Taiwanese people has their own passport, use their own currency and elect their own leader indicate that Taiwan is not a province of any country. I am a Taiwanese girl and I’m very proud of my country. Taiwan has done a lot of things for the global community, including joining many international significant projects. Foreigners who have been to Taiwan love this country because Taiwan has a lot to offer, plus the local people are simply nice and friendly.
